Charlie Dong was born in Shanghai China and immigrated to Australia at 11. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy at Monash University (2003) and worked as a hospital clinical pharmacist until 2010. During that time, he completed his PhD at Monash University (2009) under the supervision of Prof Ben Boyd. His thesis titled ‘Investigation of nanostructured liquid crystal particles as novel agrochemical delivery agents’ was awarded the RACI Cornforth medal in 2010. During his PhD, he has also completed a Grad Cert in commercialising research.
After 3 years of further postdoctoral training under Ben, he commenced an academic position at Monash University in 2013. His main research interest is in lipid-based self-assembling systems for pharmaceutical and agrochemical applications. He is fluent in both Chinese and English. As a parent of 2 very young children, he spends all his spare time reading children’s books, watching cartoons or going to the zoo. He knows all the song lyrics in Frozen.
