Hi I’m Nicolas Alcaraz but everyone calls me Nick. I'm a 21 year old Honours student that Ben is supervising. Upon finishing year 12 at Mckinnon secondary college I started the bachelor of pharmaceutical sciences at Monash University in Parkville. After this year I plan on continuing my studies with a PhD.
I was born in Brazil and my family migrated to Australia when I was 3 and a half years old and we've been happily settled in Melbourne for over 15 years now.
My area of study is with lipids, nanotechnology and controlled drug release. Currently, I am working on using a magnetic field to allow for reversible controlled drug release. This involves placing iron nanoparticles into a lipid-drug system and using a magnetic field to impart control over the release rate of the drug from the lipid-drug system.
Outside of University I play in a futsal (5 a side indoor soccer) team made up with my friends from high school. Other activities I enjoy are playing video games, following my beloved Chelsea football club and reading/collecting comic books (especially the batman related ones).
